I have been doing Hot Yoga for about 3 months and I sincerely adore it. Am hooked big time. However, I am wondering if anyone else has trouble with balancing poses? I just cannot seem to get the knack. I try holding the wall but that is embarrassing to me. Does anyone have any tips or advice on balancing poses? Thanks in advance.

I think many of the balancing poses are 10 year postures.

I have been doing this yoga for 5 years and have lots of difficulty standing on one leg.

I have good days and bad days and do what I can.

I challenge you to try to move away from the wall though and out of your comfort zone!

It’s too easy to use that as a crutch and I am sure it’s distracting for others around you.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have tried moving away from the wall but then I stumble and am a clod and I feel that is even more distracting than the wall (smile) But I still try … am determined to one day conquer this very challenging problem. Betty

I think everyone gets comfy in their “spot” too which makes it challenging with changing things up…

    Hello Betty

How’s your balance going now? Well done for moving away from the wall.

Have you happened to take a look at my free video, Great Posture From The Ground Up? It has some hints about how to approach balance and posture that I think will help you.

On the off chance that regardless you experience difficulty adjusting you can go for a few tips, for example,

    1. Utilization divider for backing.

    2. Twist both knees before lifting one leg.

    3. Keep the knee of your standing leg bowed.

    4. Put additional weight on the external edge of your standing foot.

My balance use to be very good for poses like tree then I reached a certain age (now 64) and balance changed to my feet wanting to jiggle about.  Even the crow pose is shaky, could do it with ease and variation with legs to the side. But I’ve been out of the practice and now have to train harder and more often.

    Hi Henry

Sometimes a break from practice means we get back to it and the body is not as ready to get back into the yoga groove as quickly as the mind is. There is an element of lag and I know I have to put aside any feelings of impatience and just let my body catch up! Keep us posted. I am interested to know how long it takes you to get back your yojo! 😉

Since selling our house and moving into an apartment my Tai Chi practice has increased, and have been focusing on one leg balancing as I move. My Tai Chi is fairly advance and not the basic senior style but more like Kung Fu, I also do sword and saber forms.

    a friends video…

Getting more into this focus has greatly improved my balance even outdoors on a windy and gusty day. So it’s all about putting in the practice.

Doing my Yoga at home nowadays but there will be into outdoor Yoga on the green during our hot summer. There’s quite the large gathering there.

Recently got back to going to Yoga, but not the Hot Yoga. The classes have involved tree poses and found my balance was back on track with very good tree pose variations. Last class involve toe balancing even one legged with the other leg over the thigh and squat down, very tough that one.
