I have long (but not super-long) straight hair and I’ve always been terrible at figuring out what to do with it. My knowledge of hairstyles extends no further than braids and headbands.

First I tried wearing a braid to Bikram, and it would flap all over the place and even worse, get stuck to my face with moisture. Yuck! Pigtails allowed me to lay my head flat but still got in the way.

So I secured the length into a bun. This worked OK, but got in the way during savasana and sometimes loosened during the floor series. I nearly always end class with my hair looking very disheveled. Maybe I need mousse or something, or to take a class on fixing my own hair.

This isn’t a big problem—most days I don’t even notice how my hair is done—but I’m wondering if anyone has a brilliant insight, can teach me to secure my hair, or faces the same minor issue! (I’m also planning on asking the stylist next time I get a haircut.) Should I just wear Princess Leia buns to Bikram every day? Or a swim cap?

Thanks for your two cents in advance! ?

Funny, just today I was wondering the same thing and was considering posting the question when I saw yours.  Look forward to seeing replies. High pony held with barrette has worked best for me to date, but any secret styles out there for long hair that we haven’t thought of?

A very very high pony tail! When it gets too long I use an extra loop or an extra band to hold the end of it as well so it doesn’t move like crazy. My hair is not long enough for a high bun, but this “fake bun” works perfectly for me. grin

High ponytail! I even wear a sweatband. Very retro!

have you tried to wrap it at the base or your neck?

I have long hair (just past shoulder length) I am bouncing between a french/scalp plait turned under at the nape and put in a bun.

That way I don’t have to remove my “bikram bun” from the top of my head for rabbit pose.

My hair is in between lengths and very awkward as it is still too short to put up UGH but long enough to hang down and get in the way. SO frustrating

I do a high pony tail also. I just bought a yoga headband to keep the sweat out of my eyes. It’s not cute but I don’t really care. I can focus that’s all that matters.

Maybe a high pony and don’t pull it all the way through the last time to keep the ends in?

I have long hair, too. I find it works very well to, as another poster suggested, wrap it into a tight bun (not too tight!) at the base of my neck. This keeps it from getting in the way during savasana.
