Hi Gabrielle,
I am using the back exercise routine to great success and am very happy with my progress but I really don’t need the meditation as that aspect doesn’t interest me.
When you go through a total knee operation as I did, your whole life changes and you can’t walk like you used to, but with Power Yoga, Hatha Yoga or what ever kind of yoga you do it will give you more confidence in yourself, improve your mental state of mind and strengthen your body so you CAN do more for yourself and be less dependent on others to do things for you. I know that if my can do approach worked for me it will for you too.
Hang in there all of you and be good to yourselves.

Very good article that will deepen and make my Bikram Yoga more enjoyable. Thank you!
A few notes:
>It is said that the reliance on focusing on the breath and the sensations >in the body rather than an external thing such as counting or mantras >actually allows a far deeper form of meditation than any other.“
I disagree with this, and so does for example Deepak Chopra. A mantra, given to you by a trained and qualified teacher has also more vibrational effects than just calming you mind, and making you trancend.
“Do all meditation techniques produce the same results?
No. That was what most people, including scientists, thought even a few years ago. But now, with sophisticated EEG and brain imaging technologies, it is clear that all meditation techniques are not the same—they produce very different effects on brain functioning. And research also confirms that different meditation techniques have different effects on anxiety, depression, insomnia, and other stress-related disorders. The unique benefits of the TM technique are well documented by extensive research.“

Deepak Chopra teach breathing awareness meditation for free, but recommends mantra meditation as the next step.
One should also remember that Hatha Yoga is a preparation for meditation. Not that you do Hatha Yoga for years and then do Pranayama for years and then meditation. No, you do it all now, in a sequense. Howeger, I have noticed that Bikram Yoga has an accumulatie effect, so I don’t have to do it every day to get effects in my daily TM-Sidhi practice. And even just a half class a few times a week have tremendous effets on my meditation practice.

Hi,
Thank you Gabrielle for giving such a good Yoga reference, handbook & guide.
I have a problem with my weight and extra fats.
i’m been practicing a Hartha Yoga couple of months ago and also only taking beakfast & lunch during my yoga days, but it seem like no any effect from it.
I need to slim down! What shall i do then? Any advise?
Namaste,

Efficiency in attaining Savasana
I usually go into the the yoga room about 5 minutes before the class starts and lay in Savasana. While there I gradually notice places that I’m holding tension and let them go. Just before the teacher comes in I make an intentional note of how I feel and tell myself, “I’ll come back to this at the start of each Savasana”.
Take Care,
Lee

Gabrielle,
I began practicing Bikram 2 years ago and it has made a profound difference in my life. About a year ago I came into class very stressed and tired knowing I needed to do yoga. I was so tired I couldn’t even think and just focused on the instructors words and obeyed with little or no thought of my own. I later realised that this was my best session yet and realised that my mind had been getting in the way - way too often. This is now what I focus on as I practice- letting my thoughts go and just hear and do. What a difference!
