    So I have completed 4 classes in less than 24 hours during the weekend. Back to back on Saturday 2:30-4pm, 15 min break, then 4:15-5:45pm. Sunday back to back on 11am-12:30pm, 15 min break, then 12:45-2:15pm.

    I can’t go on weekdays, only weekends.

    I could barely keep proper form during yesterday’s second class. Today’s second class was a lot better.

    I would rather do it 4 times a week than doing 2 back to back but my schedule doesn’t allow me to do so.

    So here are my questions. Will I see benefit doing yoga this closely? Can I say I practice 4 times a week? Will it do more harm than good to my body? I have the whole week to recover before another doubles on next weekend.

    You can get tremendous benefit from those 4 classes. However …What I want to say is that you just have to stay present with it.

    Go to class knowing you have the possibility of doing a second class, but keep in mind that you don’t have to decide until you are at the end of your first class. Don’t make a ‘no matter what’ commitment or you could find yourself ignoring the important signs that you would normally recognize as warning signs to stop etc.

    It could be possible as well to think of taking a class in the morning and returning in the afternoon.

    Your weekends are also your time. And remember that you must have some recovery time and enjoy yourself and maybe do … well … nothing!

    And hey, you may not make a 90 minute class during the week. But what’s to stop you getting up and doing a small set of Pranayama, a Half Moon with Hands to Feet and any other pose or 2. It’s not an all or none thing.

    So I have been doing double on weekends for two months. I have had ups and downs. Sometimes I feel so tired in the second class that I have thoughts of quitting during class. Other times I feel great in the second class that I want to do a third class time permitted.

    Now I am considing doing triples at least one day on the weekend.

    How do I properly prepare for a triple back to back class? For doubles, I drink a Litre of water one hour before class. A Litre after the first class.

    I notice that every time I complete doubles my ears are plugged, I can’t speak clearly. Why is that?

    For anyone that reads this post…here’s the advice from a regular practitioner of 3yrs. As far as I can tell, there is no harm in doing a “double” from time to time. However, I’d recommend spacing the classes out by a few hours.  So, for example, if you do a 12:00 noon class, the next one could be 6:00 PM or later.  Overall, I would not recommend making a habit of 4 classes in 2 days. Your body needs time to recuperate from one class, let alone two in one day.  Bikram yoga is not any different than other forms of activity.  Some moderation is necessary because your body needs time to take in the benefits. Consistency is the key to a good practice. So, the bottom line here is that a “double” is a fine way to challenge yourself. But making it a habit to do four classes in two days is not going to bring the benefit you imagine.
