    Hi all,

I am male, 37, very active (run four to five times a week, race 5K,10K half and full marathons, go once or twice per week to the gym). I started Bikram a couple of months ago, and already addicted (going 3 to 5 times a week)

Just yesterday I was at the doctors because I was feeling a bit sick. After examining me, he told me that I have some kind of virus infection that will go away by itself within a week or so. Just to make sure, he measured my heart rate and blood pressure and he found out that i have a very low heart rate (46bpm), and also low blood pressure (don’t remember the numbers). He then performed ECG, and the ECG showed some spikes that are not normal. I did the ECG again today, and the pattern repeated. So he has referred me to a heart specialist and I am going there next week. This was quite surprising to me because I never had a health problem since I can remember (pneumonia when I was 17), not even the usual cold, let alone a heart problem.

My question is: Can this be related to Bikram/Hot yoga at all? Have you heard of cases like this? Maybe I am not re-hydrating/refueling enough and this has taken a toll on my body?

    thanks!

    Hi beatdream

I just saw your post for the first time! Dang!

    So, where are you at?

What do you think now? I honestly don’t think you can ascribe the problem to any cause if you don’t have historical data. Even then you would need to have tested the hypothesis somehow.

In any event a look at your hydration and electrolyte intake (and if you read around here you’ll see I recommend sea salt as a great starting point) you will benefit greatly. Take a look around the forum.

You do do a lot of exercise. Because you are very fit your HR is going to be low because you have a strong heart muscle. But the spikes on the ECG, well, if you’ve never had an ECG then they could have been there for an indeterminate time.

I would be interested to know any update

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
