Namaste!
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the theory behind the extreme throat compression in this asana. I’m sure it is doing good but I wonder exactly why and about a long heritage to the technique, as with all ancient yoga practices.
Enjoy practice 🙂
Throat compression leads to healthy thyroid which is found in the throat. The theory is that compressing the thyroid will help regulate metabolism, and help those who suffer from hyper or hypothyroidism.
Sarvangasan(shoulder stand) also presses the throat and it stimulates thyroid. Another technique is jalndhar bandh(Throat center lock) this compresses the throat and helps in reducing blood pressure. This is specific technique for blood pressure.
If we look it from another angle, Root lock and navel lock increases blood pressure. and jalandhar band (Threat lock) reduced blood pressure, nullifying the side effect of both the bandhas(Locks).
