When I’m standing on my right leg, my upper body rotates gently to about a 25-35 degree angle. That is, if I’m standing at the center of a clock, and straight ahead is twelve o’clock, I’m facing ten o’clock or ten-thirty. When I try to counter-rotate and get back to twelve o’clock, I usually end up losing my balance.

BTW, I can’t bring up my leg. I usually just wrap my hands just below the knee or sometimes I can hold my hands around the ball of my foot.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Pravin

Firstly can you tell me what direction your foot is facing? Is it also facing 12 o’clock? And also can you tell me what happens when you are in the pose if you adjust your hips to make them parallel to the floor instead of trying to adjust your upper body?

Do you happen to know if you have any types of spinal/vertebral misalignments?

Sorry, it took me some to post this response.

Yes, the right foot (the one I’m standing on) is at 12 o’clock. My hips seem to be parallel to the floor.

One thing that I noticed today was that if I turn my right foot slightly so that it is at 1 or 2 o’clock then, my body doesn’t seem to rotate, but I have a harder time balancing.

I don’t think i have any spinal/vertebral misalignment. I’ve been a long time runner and walker and presumably those kind of misalignments should have shown up earlier?

This only happens with my right foot. When I stand on my left, I don’t rotate.

    Hi Pravin

Even though you feel your hips may be parallel to the floor, they may not be square to the mirror on that side, have you tried playing around with your hips, swiveling them etc to see if your body comes back to centre? I would like to know if things adjust.

Let me know and then we can move on from there.

    Thanks, Gabrielle.

I haven’t tried swiveling my hips. This pose is such a struggle for me that I just try to focus on finishing. I’ll try to swivel my hips around.

BTW, the exact same thing happens in the Tree pose as well. My body rotates to the left when I’m standing on my right foot.
