    Hello everyone,
I am planning on attending either a morning class (6am) or a late one around 7:45pm (after work) just curious, how much water should I drink the night before for morning classes and during the day for evening classes? Also does anyone know where I can buy coconut water in Melbourne (Au)?

    Hello…

Not quite sure if Amazon.com ships to Australia. But they do carry coconut water various brands. Have you check with some health food stores? In the past, I did purchase some coconut water thru my hot yoga studio but later I discovered a good substitute for coconut water which is Kiwi. For 2 kiwis, you will get 450 mg Potassium,4 gr Dietary fiber, Vit.A, C,E, B6, Calcium, Iron, Folic Acid, Magnesium, Copper and Manganese.

There are lots of other types of electrolyte replacements too. Gabrielle addresses it in a few posts. You could search electrolyte in the top of the page and you will get a lot of information. For me Coconut water is just too expensive for what I get. I use a product called Ultima Replenisher. However, Gabrielle has said that Sea Salt especially Hawaiian or a few other types are just as good. I suggest you look at the other posts. I salt my food with Himalayan Sea Salt.

    Hi Elle,
You know, I LOVE a.m. classes! One of the reasons is that I haven’t yet racked up a day’s bad habits, so I tend not to get too dehydrated. That said, I’m one who doesn’t drink alcohol and only a small amount of caffeine throughout the day, so I’m generally hydrated. I tend not to think of drinking extra water at all the night before and find morning classes easier in terms of thirst. I just get up, drink some water and soymilk with a banana and go!

    Hi there,

Not sure where about in Melbourne you are, but the Fitzroy, Prahran and Richmond Bikram studios definitely all sell coconut water. I’ve also noticed that they’ve started selling the Nudie coconut waters at some 7-11’s, so you should be able to pick some up pretty easily 🙂

    Hi everyone

Coconut water is definitely a great thing to have. But I guess it’s also better to have the fresh stuff too. I would be interested to know what nutritional value if any is lost because it has been pasteurized or processed in whatever way and placed in those cartons.

It’s also very expensive in Oz. So it can become a rather expensive habit. I am with Pamela on this one. 😉 Go and buy the unrefined sea salt. It’s inexpensive and is IMHO more beneficial to you! And it’s delicious on food and even a little in your water is very popular. And for those who are responsible for feeding more than just themselves, it’s an inexpensive way to provide these nutrients to the family.

heavencity – I haven’t had a chance to get to a health store, but will definitely be checking it out this weekend. Thank you for the heads up regarding kiwi. I already eat 1 kiwi a day.

I was able to get coconut water at the Bikram Yoga studio I go to, but a little carton 250ml? Is $6! That is pretty expensive.
I had a few sips after my class, and truth be told while it is not too bad, it seems kind of sweet and did make me want to omit, but I took a few sips of water and felt better after that. This definitely could be because today was my 2nd class and overall at the end I wasn’t feeling too great (because of the room temp).

Gabrielle, unrefined sea salt can this be found at any supermarket or just health stores?

RandomFemale – Today was my first morning class (6am) and I have to say I much prefer it. The studio isn’t as crowded and it was pretty cool outside. I would love to go to morning classes, but the studio I go to only has 2 6am classes weekly.

    Hi Elle

I have a wonderful health food store right near me and I buy my salt in bulk for about $6 a kilo ($3 a pound). My experience is that supermarkets may have unrefined sea salt but rarely in large amounts. But check it out. It is definitely worth finding a supplier. If not then online is an option!

As for the water issue, I make sure I drink water throughout the day but I really pay attention to making sure I’m hydrated. I’ve been in class and not hydrated properly so I find that I need to pay particular attention to this the night before. I usually drink 2 litres of water in the evening, no water past 9pm or I’ll be up all night in the bathroom. In the morning, I have a large glass of water an hour before class (which is when I have to leave to get to class in time).
    Cheers!
