I have a really hard time straightening my wrists without my fingers coming apart in second position. When I try my fingers slowly slip out of my grip and I have to come back down to first position to re-adjust and hope I don’t fall out of it all together.

I just want to clarify as maybe I am misunderstanding the direction of the straighting?? I understand keeping the wrist straight as extending the wrists back so that the top of the hands are in alignment with the outstretched arms and not facing the wall in front of me. Is that correct? Because that is where the “bend” happens for me. I have to flex my wrists to ‘cup’ my foot and grasp my fingers tightly.

Is the slipping just another weakness that will improve with strength, such as sliding out on the floor in triangle (the sliding in that one kills me btw, ugh)? Do I just need to squeeze the heck out of my foot? Kinda lost on this one.

    Thanks!
    🙂

    Hi Micherie

Is it that your fingers are coming apart? Or is it that your thumbs are sliding apart and your hands are opening up? It is possible for your hands to move apart along with your thumbs uncrossing and still keep your fingers interlaced right down to the ‘webbing’. Please try and do that and please, please, please don’t worry about this straightening-of-the-wrists nonsense. I can’t help but think that this addition to the ‘dialog’ is making something conscious that needed no attention. Relax your wrists and allow your arms to lengthen and create traction from grip to shoulders. You don’t want your wrists moving laterally and bending them that way. That would indicate other issues. If that is your problem let me know.

yep, first the thumbs slip, then the fingers but only when i try to straighten my wrists… so i’ll just ignore that and proceed to getting awesome at standing head to knee!

    thanks! 🙂

    hi folks!

Quick question about this: where on the sole of the feet do you recommend placing the hands? I enjoy this particular practice and I am working into a more fuller expression of it, but sometimes my held leg starts to shake. I wonder if this is just an indication of trying to ask my body to do something it is not ready to do or if I should alter the position of my hands (usually they are in the centre of the foot). What do you suggest?

Thanks yoga doctoes and patience 🙂

I checked again and my hans are more likely to be close to the toes. I think the shaking leg was due to slippy hands and not having my standing leg fully active. I have noticed that concentrating on the hip of the held leg can help with this one.
    Take it easy 🙂

    Hi Allan

Your hands seem to be in good position. The middle of the foot is wrong. Towards the toes (under the ball) is the right place. Make sure that there is not much weight on your hands and strengthen your core.
