I’ve decided to try and find a hot yoga class nearby, but we only have a handful of gyms in driving distance so I was wondering if hot yoga can be done at home if I can’t find a class nearby?

You most certainly can and many do! (Including us!)

If you choose not to practice in heat, then it does help to be very vigorous in Pranayama and Half Moon to get the heta into your body.

But … “yoga is yoga” and despite the many claimed benefits of the heat (some of which have a deal of dubious pseudo-science to them!), just doing the yoga poses and paying attention to your body will of course be beneficial.

You will notice a difference without the heat & humidity of course and it may even feel as if you don’t stretch quite so much – so it pays to be aware of what is going on in your body.

If you do want to include heat (and humidity) then generally you will need something better than a typical home heater – they are usually regulated to switch off below the sorts of temperatures we like, for safety reasons.

There are a ton of threads on here about practicing at home and also setting up with heat – just use the search function and you’ll find them – and you can also read about Gabrielle’s “Home Practice Kit” product here:

Thanks for the reply, Robert. 🙂 I do want to include heat and humidity, since that sets hot yoga apart from other forms of yoga which are not as… temperature sensitive, I guess you could say, so I will definitely check out the home practice kit. Thanks again!

Hi, I set up at home a while ago, and my biggest tip is to get a good big mirror to see yourself in when you are doing the poses as Gabrielle recommends. After the intial 5 minutes discomfort looking at yourself it really does help to see how you are holding your body in the poses.
I found it easy to heat up my room with a heater with no thermostat control, and you can buy a humidifier if you need one.
    Good luck :0)
