I started practicing at home after going to a Bikram studio for about a year. It just became a little too expensive and, honestly, I got tired of the attitude some of the teachers… Anyway, I got Bikram’s CD and started practicing at home. I liked it but I was truly wishing for a shorter class that I could do in the mornings before work…
Your name came up when googling for “hot yoga at home”. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little apprehensive as I remembered your name from my Bikram studio where it was not mentioned in a positive manner. But I read through the forum and watched some of your free videos and I was hooked.
I got the iPad app and I love it! Three classes, the descriptions and tricks for each pose, and even the “learn the sanskrit names” feature are truly great. Thanks so much for this wonderful app and your great site!

I just took my first 60 minute class with you and really, really liked it. I was able to – for the first time – do my practice outside (it’s hot today in NYC) and I love it!
I do have a question about your 60 minute class: I would have expected that the class would be shortened by omitting repetitions of the postures. Instead, some postures were left out but the ones that were don, were done twice. This is not a criticism, it is just different from what I would shave expected. Why is it done this way?

Thanks again for the great app! I’d love to take your class it sounds fun.

Hello Amalthea! Thanks for the lovely feedback – Gabrielle is traveling right now (heading over to Costa Rica for our annual 4-week Teacher Training event!) so she won’t see this for a little while yet.

We generally don’t participate in the “politics” as it is incomprehensible to us why those who have influence in the yoga community choose to make judgments based on inaccuracy or hearsay. We believe in continuing to help those who need help, information and transparency!

In regard to the App and the choice of classes, it’s somewhat personal actually. Many studios who run 60-minute classes simply run 1 set of each of the poses used in the popular bikram classes.

We do have the choices in our DVDs – Volume One is all double-sets, Volume Two is all single sets – thus catering to all preferences!

When it came to personal preference, both Gabrielle and I prefer the double-set 60min version. Somehow it’s more satisfying and allows for the extra stretch in the second set – and possibly assisting with PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) for improved range of motion as the stretch receptors and body respond to the second set.

We were limited to space with the app (as you know, it’s already a BIG app) as we wanted it to be able to function with no internet or cell connection required – therefore squeezing in video footage meant we had to make a choice with what to go with 😉

I hope that helps – Gabrielle I’m sure will comment when she has recovered from the travel and can check in with the Forum!

I didn’t mean to bring up politics, sorry – just glad I ended up here in the end 🙂

Yeah, it’s great that one can use the app without wifi access (outside!!!)…

Thanks for explaining the 60 minute class. This is interesting. I do like having the second set, too, especially in postures like standing bow, which I never seem to get in the first set. I guess the 90 minute class is always the ultimate goal, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out and I figure a short class will be better than none.

Thanks & again, very cool app!
Now, I’m gonna go practice how to say Dandayamana Bibhaktapada Paschimottanasana 🙂

Hi Amalthea – ooops sorry – no need to apologize! We’re not bothered about YOU mentioning what you heard at all – it’s just that it is a shame it goes on (from other studios) and we make a point of not joining in since it’s not a game we wish to play!

Practicing those long Sanskrit pose names is fun isn’t it?! … Great way to impress your friends hehe

    Namaste,

    Robert

I need this app for my Android phone. Approximately 700,000 Android devices are activated daily. This is a large demographic for you to target.

Thanks Melissa – we are continuing to monitor the market for an Android version. So far, the demand is so small it doesn’t warrant the time we need to invest in porting it over 🙁

Shame because Gabrielle has an Android phone too!

We’ll certainly be letting everyone know as soon as plans are under way!

    Thanks for your feedback 🙂

    Robert
