    Hi Everyone!

I am making happy happy progress in half moon. When I started I did the usual – pushed too far without the proper form. Then I started paying attention to my form but still am struggling. I started to experience a strange warning sensation (tiny bit of pinching) in my mid/lower back and realized that something was not right. I am now really focused on tightening my core (especially lower abs) and feel much much MUCH stronger, with no back pinching sensations.

I am wondering though about how far back I should be starting with my arms in terms of the set up. Should my shoulders be back past my hips, which are tilted forward? I know I do tend to curl forward with my upper body as I mover sideways, so I am trying to find what I should be looking for so my upper body begins in the correct set up position.

    Any suggestions are welcome,

    Hi Ilonka

Some people say you should be completely upright and vertical and move to the side. However the way to open up your hips and shoulders is to push the hips forward so that you are standing in what feels like a backbend. It’s not huge. It’s an arc. Your arms are back. Your chin is parallel to the floor.

In this way you will find that your body will stay open and you will be able to counter that curling forward that’s happening as you move. See how you go.

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
