It seems that there are differing opinions regarding the number of classes which one has to go to a week to experience the benefits of Bikram yoga. Between my work schedule and going to the gym to do other things I like to do, I can only go to yoga once a week. While I am there, I enjoy it though it is by far the hardest thing I do. Sometimes I worry that I am wasting my time and going once a week will not help me gain the mental and physical benefits of Bikram yoga. What do you think?

    Hi

Every little bit helps. It’s a practice. The more you practise the better the benefits. So just decide what your outcome is for practising and adjust the frequency accordingly!!!

I try to go at least 3x a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

I always feel like I get a benefit out of it, even if I only make it once in a particular week.

Even though I hadnt been to class for 1 year and a half I had benefits from the previous classes, at least in class. I think even a bit is beneficial!

I have been attending classes for over a year and find that if I skip more than 2 days in a row it can be more difficult than normal. Although each class does present its own specific challenges; some days its the heat, some days its a posture, some days its both, (for me) I find that trying to go to class as often as possible even if the class itself is difficult that particular day is much easier than trying to “make up” for a few days that I have missed in my routine. Having said that, this means some schedule adjusting on my part almost every day and this is not always easy but I know this yoga is good for my body and mind so I have to make the decision to make it an important part of my life. Believe me that decision is not easy some days and its hard just to make it in the door. Once the class is over I know every time that I made the right decision.

Why do you want to do both gym workouts and yoga? Yoga in itself is a powerful workout for your entire body and mind. I know it looks very simple and easy and seems like the meditation would only help to calm you down and make you feel peaceful. But the fact is that yoga is not as easy as it looks. And you will realize it once you join a regular class and start learning the advanced yoga asanas or postures.
Yoga and gym workouts both have their own set of benefits and you need to decide what you require for your body.
