    Hey

I have started having a lot of pain in my knees in the bow pose standing, and on the ground. Is there anything you can suggest to help fix this?

    Hi Tania

Not good to feel pain! Sorry to hear that. Thanks for posting by the way and welcome to the forum. Can you tell me whether the instruction you hear tells you to bring your knees together for standing bow after you pick up your foot? Can you also tell me where your knees are hurting and if it only happens in these 2 poses and at no other time (in or out of the studio)?

    Hi Gabrielle

Yes, the instructors always tell us to bring our knees together. There’s no pain in that first position, it’s once I start the extension and there is the tension between my foot trying to move in one direction and my hand pulling it in another.

I’ve never had any other pain in my knees, in or outside of the studio. I’m totally fine in other poses, like Fixed Firm pose. The last class I did I could feel it a bit in Triangle pose, but nothing major like in the Bow poses. I’ve done a lot of dancing in my life, so my body is used to exercise, but I have never had pain like this before.

I’m not sure where exactly in the knee – I’ll try and pay more attention in the next class.

I have read elsewhere that I need to focus on kicking upwards rather than backwards as well. Do you think this is valid?

    Thanks

    Hi Tania

I actually answered something VERY similar to this only weeks before your past – and with resounding success… Perhaps you’ll also have similar results…

OK, so instead of bringing your knees together touching, just let the leg come into alignment in the starting position directly under the hip. The knees probably will not touch at all (well, actually they won’t!). Then just keep those hips in alignment as you press your foot backward and your knee upward…

    Tell me how you go!

    Namaste
