I have been trying to get up at 4:45 to do the FBZA (fat burning zone activity) prescribed in the Weight Loss program. While I feel lots better from following the program overall, the AM ritual seems ineffective for me because I am soooo stiff when I wake up. Even after 20 minutes of hydrating and reading my Ideal Day, the 20 and 30 minute practices are super uncomfortable. When I modify to accomodate the stiffness and make things easier I feel like I’m not challenging myself nearly enough and am probably not in the “zone”.

I work full time, am a mom and wife, so early AM is really my only opportunity for FBZA if I do an evening hot yoga class at my studio.

Should I continue with a modified less challenging practice in the morning, or should I just pass on the morning FBZA and rely on my 90 minute classes?

    Suggestions?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Amy

Welcome to the forum! 😉 Can you tell me if your FBZAs are the hot yoga routines or some other exercise such as walking?

And on the day you are talking about your incredible effort to exercise so early (well done I say! 😉 ) are you also doing a 90 minute class later that day?

I look forward to your response

    Hi Gabrielle –

In the morning I use the mp3’s that I downloaded with the weight loss program; my yoga room at home is not all that hot but it’s the best I can get to in the morning. I am also doing an evening 75 minute class (there is only one 90 minute class per week at my studio) on those days.

On days when I can’t do a 75 minute class at the studio, I can run/walk (run 1-2 min, walk 2-3 min, alternating) for 2-3K in the morning or evening combined with the AM mp3 practices opposite the run/walk.

Thanks for your quick response and help!

    Hi Amy

Can I ask you how you are modifying it to accommodate for stiffness? I would like to understand.

What temperature is the room? Or maybe how cold does it feel and how does that affect your increase in heart rate? Have you thought of wearing a little more clothing to get your heat up a bit?

    Hi Gabrielle –

Mostly I am bending my knees A LOT in forward bends to modify for the AM stiffness, but I also find that there is this twinge that goes down from the back of my neck to the back side of my leg. That “twinge-y thing” is present mostly in the morning.

Thank you for the suggestion about clothing; I hadn’t thought about that (duh!) and was definitely not wearing enough to get the heat going. I have started wearing fleece and sweatpants rather than my normal yoga-wear and that has helped with “warming up”.

Thanks as always for your help and suggestions!!

    Namaste,
    Amy
