Is there anything I can do to help my hovering knee to open up without twisting it? it feels as if I try to even out the knees, I will twist badly my hovering knee. Any suggestions?

Hi! What is a “hovering knee”?

    Hi Liliana

Yes, hovering knee does sound very ominous! Monica, I am pretty sure Liliana must mean the bent knee and not the supporting straight leg! 😛

Tadasana is a knee-twisting movement. So let’s get some more facts about what’s happening. You need to work out if there are any other movements that are causing your knee to feel vulnerable.

Next can you tell me at what point, what exactly are you doing in Tree when you feel the problem? What’s your lower back doing, feeling? What’s happening with your hips?

Whatever you can manage to tell me, for example what angle your leg has with the ground. Is your hovering knee forward of your standing leg and by how much? Stuff like that… :cheese:

    HI Gabrielle,

The problem comes exactly as I try to even out my knees by bringing the bent knee backwards while keeping my foot as close as I can to the middle line. My hovering knee is forward about 1 1/2 inches when I am standing on the left leg, and a little bit more when I stand on the other one. Naturally my hips will tilt backwards (which I’m sure has to do lots with my far less than ideal core strength), but I actively draw them up and forward as I tuck my tailbone under. Does that make any sense at all??

Perhaps I should let my foot slide down or something? not sure.

Looking forward to your suggestions 🙂

    Thank you,

    Liliana

    Hi Liliana

Try this: Bring your leg up and heel across so that it lies over your femur. Don’t worry if your foot drops down a little as long as it stays over or on the inside of the femur. Your flexibility may not be allowing you to bring up your leg as high as you like yet. So give it a little reprieve and let your foot move out and down a bit.

Then draw it in and up little by little over time.

Tell me if that makes sense and of course, if it works. 😉

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
