    Hello!

I have been practicing Bikram for about 2 months now, and I am in love with it! I find that the more I learn of the postures, the more questions I have. Luckily I have found most questions already asked on this forum; so thanks. But I haven’t been able to find any information on pins and needles during this posture.
During this posture, I find that I get pins and needles in both feet. Do you know why this is? My first thought is because I am blocking a nerve (possibly in my back) which limits the feeling in my feet. Do you think it could be this? If so what nerve?
Another thought of mine, is that I am getting it because all the oxygenated blood is rushing from my feet to my head as I bend my forehead to my knees. But I am not sure? Do you have any ideas on how I can prevent the pins and needles.
Once I leave this posture the pins and needles go away immediately and I do not get pins and needles in any other postures.

    Thanks!

    Ny

    Hi Ny

That’s an interesting thing going on!!!

Is it a nerve? Well it does appear to be something ‘nervous’ in nature.

Can you try something for me?

Next time you’re in class, go forward into Hands to Feet, do the warm up but then bend down with chest on legs and then simply leave the hands away from the feet. Don’t touch your feet. Just lift your hips keeping body on legs. You can place your hands on the floor if you need the balance. But keep minimal pressure through the hands.

Do that first set and see if the phenomenon happens again. Then for your second set you could try placing your palms against the ankles, thumbs on the outsides just grasping your legs and pulling up that way (keep your shoulders away from the ears OK? 😉 )

    Come back and report!

Another class do the no hands technique again and second set place the hands under in the normal way.

I don’t think it’s got anything to do with oxygenated blood from feet rushing to head!!! But if someone can convince me of that I am willing to listen.

It’s odd that it never happens anywhere else. Still one would want to make sure that there are enough electrolytes to feed those muscles and nerves of yours!

I have been practicing for one and a half years on and off 🙂 but have quite some difficulty putting fingers under heels and breathing heavy thru my nose when my stomach is on front of thighs!
Please help me with one of many poses! 🙂

    Hi Donnadale

The fix for this is actually quite simple! Try with a little space between your feet. Keep them parallel. Try what happens with 3 or 6 or 9 inches apart. Perhaps you need to spread the foundation to create better balance and have more physical space to breathe. There could be quite a bit of compression (maybe too much at times) in your abdomen.
