When raising a single leg I have no problem in this pose and get them over 45 degrees with weight on my shoulder and no discomfort.

However when I try and raise both legs at the same time it all goes wrong.

I can’t really understand how/where my arms should be. I have them completely under my body facing down. My forearms are inside my hipbones. The problem is that in this position my body basically levers off of my elbows, and thus puts a lot of weight on my elbows. I can’t seem to work out how the weight can be put on my shoulders in this position.

A couple of times I’ve let the weight be on my elbows and was able to lift my legs quite high, but it put more strain on my elbows than can be right. In the next class I pretty much didn’t lift my legs off the floor at all becuse I could feel the strain on my elbows and knew it’d do something bad.

If it makes any difference I have quite long arms compared to my torso.. this helps with poses like eagle but I think it might be hindering me in this one!

So how can I get the weight off of my elbows?? I don’t mind a bit of discomfort but I’m worried I might snap my elbows in half or something haha.

    Hi David

Can you please tell me about what is going on in your shoulders? Please tell me when you are trying to get your arms close in under the body do your shoulders also move in.

It is possible that you have locked yourself into a position with your long arms(!) that is preventing you from distributing the weight correctly.

See what happens if you were to externally rotate the arms to seat your shoulders back and down and then position your arms under the body. Then try to ‘push your heart’ into the floor to create the opening where you need it.

Anyway see if any of that means something to you and get back to me. In the meantime I remember posting responses to similar questions before that I can’t quite seem to find at this moment.

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
