    Love Love Love this thread!!

There are so many different points of view here and I believe each and every one is correct….for that person. Im still a newbie, Ive only attended 5 classes but fact of the matter is that after saying I was not coming back after the first class….I DID!!! So I truly believe that you cant make a decision on Bikram in just one, two or three classes because you’re just learning. Learning takes time and you need to give yourself that and the instructors that chance.

I too am lucky enough to have a studio that is very in tune with the students. There was a first timer at class last night who almost got up and walked out, and instead of singling her out in front of the rest of the students, the instructor slowly walked up the student while still giving dialogue, told her to sit for a few minutes, and gave her a bottle of water. She often went over to check on her throughout the class as well. The student remained in the class to the end.

So I guess you need to have all aspects in place at the right time: 1. the will and determination to learn Bikram’s yoga, 2. the understanding that you can’t learn nor appreciate the practice in 1 class, and 3. have a studio available that fits your needs and comfort level.

Thanks for the advice & support everyone. I attended my 3rd class this morning with a new attitude and plan of attack. I decided that I would focus more on my breathing, alignment and the teacher’s moniloque and less on what I thought other people were looking at. As everyone has said in the past, “this is my workout and no one elses”, I went at my own pace. It really helped and i found myself not as winded and was able to hold a couple poses pretty well!! Going back tomorrow for class #4…..

Bunni, I did watch Gabrielle’s video on breathing and yes, it helped a lot….I recommend everyone watch it!! I am definitely more aware of my breathing now and find myself correcting my breathing techniques

Thanks for the advice Gabrielle. I am definitely going to go back and try again. Like you said, maybe the instruction wasnt ideal! I dont think Im going to stand in the 2nd row though only because I am going to try and use the bar at the back of the room to help me balance some of my poses. My balance is AWFUL!!!

Ive been so wanting to try hot yoga and really want to have a good experience with it as I am sure there are many many benefits to it.

Ill let you know how it goes

OMG…I know exactly how you feel….I am very new to Bikram yoga (Ive only taken 2 classes) and last night was AWFUL! I thought my second class would be better than my first so maybe I went in there with higher expectations but I left feeling totally deflated! I was in the back row with some of my other fellow newbies and there was an older gentleman in there for the first time that could do more poses than me.

I left class wondering whether or not this was for me. Should I give it more time or is type of yoga only for certain people. I also noticed that I sweated way more than the other people in class. It was to the point where I could see the sweat streaming from my body…

    Advice???
