I am learning to accept my limitations but at the same time I keep on trying, believing if I keep trying microscopic gains may be happening. I will continue to work towards finding that “sweet spot” without excessive pain or stiffening and picturing progress in my head 🙂 Thanks!

I have the weird permanently crooked arms as well. I am 43 and from birth my arms (and legs) do not straighten fully. I have been to many doctors who all say it is rare and may or may not be corrected by a series of surgeries. I was the kid who could never do cartwheels and was told I could never be a gymnast or ballerina because of this.

I have had teachers actually not believe me and they have asked to try to force my arm straight. Doesn’t work.

I also have large breasts so I encounter the same issues in full locust.

Please help – I can send photos if you wish.

PS when the doctors told me that yoga would not help, I chose to sign up anyway. When my local Bikram shop was negative about my arms I joined Sunstone Yoga, a hot yoga franchise in the Dallas area and they have been more supportive, but do not have experience in this type of anatomical issue. I will not give up trying! I feel hot yoga can help heal mind, body and spirit.

I have something somewhat similar, maybe. It started with cramps in right calf with every floor bow. Now after the cramp I go to next poses and my right big toe, and nearby toes are numb and/or pins and needles for the rest of class and sometimes for hours after or more. Today after more than 3 hours now my ankle and lower leg is going numb.

Hoping to find some answers or suggestions from this group.

    Thank you,

    Angela

I feel your pain! I have moderate to severe lordosis and kyphosis, with exceptionally tight shoulders and I struggle with this too. Its is hard not to look at the other students and feel completely frustrated. I keep thinking that someday I’m gonna figure it out. Hopefully someone here can provide that missing link we are searching for!

I’m 42 and I just started this year. I regret I did not start when I was younger, but I am proud of myself for starting at this pivotal point in my life. I’d like to be still practicing and learning at 82….:) I believe it can only be a good thing for us sassy ladies as we walk further through our years!

Ditto! This is a challenge I face as well – and I believe others do too. I do believe it improves in time!

Cyberry – and other hot yoga friends,

A great resource for finding a balanced approach to a “raw diet” or “juice feasting” and other lifestyle behavioral choices is a NING site http://www.rawfoodrehab.com run by my friend Penni Shelton. I believe there are several thousand members and we all help encourage each other, share information, etc. Its free. I even found my hot yoga introduction class teacher on this site – she was a member and invited me to attend her hot yoga chain’s introduction classes.

I have spent several years trying raw, juicing, vegetarian, vegan etc and finally found a perfect combination diet which works for me. Every body is different. I am a former smoker and a former over-drinker (trying to combat PTSD nightmares and anxiety). After trying lots of strategies I found my way to healthier choices too, as I know you will as well.

Be patient with yourself, and your body. Keep associating with like-minded, health minded folks like on here and other forums and you may find the boost you need to succeed.

    Angela
