Putting a half to a full cup – depending upon load size – of white vinegar in the final rinse can work major miracles. A prewash vinegar water soak might be necessary for really deeply ingrained odors.

Just updating. I’m happy to report that I’m still practicing Bikram yoga. I presently practice 3-4 times a week and continue to enjoy and benefit from it very much. I’ve also added in some other fitness activities and am active 7 days of the week. My energy levels are much better than they had been before my 60 day challenge.

    Hi Phil,

I use two small ceramic heaters and manage to get my practice area (large bathroom) to 100-105f. They are made by Holmes (not sure of the models). I put them on opposite ends of the room and though they have thermostats they don’t turn off once it hits 100.

I just wanted to come in and update my progress. I finished my 6-day/week 60 day (8 week) challenge. I was pretty beat by the last week due to the fact that I had to work a lot of hours and was short on sleep but none-the-less I did my full practices.

Yesterday I tried the 35 minute double practice off the Hot Yoga MasterClass doubles dvd and loved it. I was feeling kind of burnt out after 60 days and was a little fearful that I might bag Hot Yoga due to burn out, which is the last thing I want to do. Having the shorter practices available is going to make all the difference. Thanks Gabrielle!

Thank you so much for the fast reply Gabrielle. Yes it does make sense. I also review savasana in the manual last night so I think – at least for now – I am good to go.

hi! i tried for the first time the first dvd set at home, i practiced in our living room, where our wood stove was burning hot – and to make sure i got hot enough, i had a long sleeve top on and leggings and it did get pretty hot, not as hot as a studio but it was definately a decent sweat –

I’ve begun using the MasterClass DVD and so have been using my loft heated by the woodstove below and an added space heater. Not as hot as the bathroom but since there is no dvd player in the bathroom the only way to use the DVD.

just wondering how big is your bathroom that you practice in there? and how do u get it so hot in there?

HMMM I’d say it’s about 7’X10′ Not counting the space the shower stall and closet take up on one end. The toilet and sink are on the same side so there is a big open floor area where I can put my mat. I use two space heaters and also run the shower for a few minutes to get the humidity up. The humidity doesn’t get as high as it would in a studio however because I live in the North and it’s very dry here. I just hate to waste hot water. I guess I should use a humidifier but it’s getting kind of crowded in there with the mirror and I hate to have too many things to set up and take down.

i am thinking of going to the studio in my town after the new year, but it is expensive to take classes, and doing it at home would be so nice. thank you for your input!

I would love to have the option of attending classes to augment my home practice. At some point I’m going to plan a trip to the studio that’s a little over 200 miles south of me but will probably wait until the weather improves in the spring.

Best of luck with your home practice.

    Hi Julia,

I’m a cardiac rehab nurse. I just wanted to mention that if you were placed on cardiac medications, especially Beta Blockers like Metoprolol or Toprol your medications could be causing continued dizziness by preventing your body from responding to your pose to pose positional changes. That improves for most people over time. Moving slowly through position changes can really help in the meantime.

Hey, some people do it in their bathrooms.

Guilty as charged. :red: But I like it hot and I can get that room up to 100-104. 😆

Seriously, I don’t have a choice but to practice at home because I’m over 200 miles from the nearest Bikram studio but there are definitely benefits to home practice.
You can’t beat the price. You can take time and explore poses that elude you when you’re in class. I have the MasterClass set and I’ve been so taken by the manual, pose sheets and the Timing sheet I printed off this site that I have yet to try the dvds! :bug:

That’s a special treat I have reserved for tomorrow and then for the rest of the month.

So best of luck with your practice.

I just finished the sixth practice of week 4 last night and thought I’d update this thread. I’m definitely feeling stronger and less fatigued overall. I’ve received my MasterClass set and have been using the descriptions and advice in the manual to do some self led practices. I plan on resting today and then will begin to use the DVD this weekend. I can’t wait!

I finished week one and am two days into week 2. I did end up taking the 7th day as a rest day and slept a long night but woke up refreshed.

Stretch, I’m sorry about your injury. I hope you heal quickly.

Gabrielle, I have to thank you for your form pointers in this thread. I’ve been struggling with this one despite reading about the form it requires in a couple of different places. I still can’t tell you exactly what I was doing wrong but today when I approached it according to your description it was so much better. I didn’t move beyond the second stage because I was just enjoying being rock steady enough to nail the balance and hold onto it. The rest will come with time.

I just ordered swiss ball office chairs for our desks at work on recommendation from a PT. I used to sit on a big Swiss ball but it kept rolling away every time I got up. I think it was a combo of being under a heater duct and maybe a slightly uneven floor.

You’ve reminded me of a small soft ball I have and that I used to use with a video to roll over and get the kinks out. Thaks! I’m going to pull it out and use it to work out my stiff areas.

    Namaste

Wowsa! I knew that my loft was getting hot but not Hot Hot. I decided to try practicing in my bathroom since I can heat it more effectively. I was able to get the temperature up to 98 and what a difference.

I’m sore and day 3 is always tough for me but the heat really helped to melt all that away. Oh no doubt I’ll be feeling it tomorrow but for tonight I’m on cloud 9!

Consider the following idea and tell me how that resonates for you!

It definitely provokes a response. 😆 It makes me feel a little nervous because It means taking up a challenge and really committing daily time to myself after three years of squeezing self care into the odd spaces of my life. Yet it also excites me.

I’m not even sure where I came up with the idea of a 30 day challenge. I don’t think it was solely from this forum. It may have been at videofitness as that is where I first learned of Bikram yoga and of your forum. In Raquel’s book she mentions the initial 30-60 day period and I may have latched onto 30 days because it sounds infinitely shorter than 60 days. :gulp:

So, I’m going to begin with the tools I have on hand while looking forward to when your set will again be available. I’m going to be present in each practice so I can really feel how my body is responding. And I’m going to stagger my practices as you suggested if I feel the need.

Thank you for your swift and very motivational response Gabrielle,

    Lannette

Oh and my avatar isn’t a symbol of my exhaustion as I originally thought when I chose it. It actually symbolizes the successful completion of each practice I embark upon and their power to restore.
