Yes, Jeffrey, it’s fun to meet people I feel I already know from this forum! I hope to see you again at *our* studio.

Yogalifer (Cindy) that’s not my puppy, although it’s my *kind* of puppy. I just felt like changing my picture up, I’ll probably change back to *me* soon.

Gab, does your studio have side mirrors?

Freia, does your studio have side mirrors or only one wall of mirrors? That’s the first question, as I see it.

Well, it’s becoming clear that coming to the top of the mat and turning sideways for these poses is the easiest and safest way, but, as Gab says, I guess the studio needs to have mirrors on two walls, although I could certainly do the sideways poses without mirrors. Actually, I’d like to do them without all the chatter as well. I may try to find a “silent” class, but that’s a totally different topic.

Ilyzium and Rebecca – is it too silly to ask if you’ve done a million Kegel and/or pelvic floor exercizes?

I used to be obsessed with doing them and still do them routinely, as well as having developed a really strong core doing ab work and Gab’s suggested leg lifts on a small ball.

It all helps to keep my bladder under “tight” control and means I rarely have to leave class to visit the loo.

Hi, Freiamaya – I checked with my studio and guess what – it was NOT an edict from Bikram to make the change, it seems they just – did it! And all other local studios I’ve been to have as well.

I think I might start a new thread to find out how many studios have made this change or if it’s just us locally. I’m pretty sure Gab’s studio has made this change, though I’m not positive. It will be interesting to see how many studios do this.

As per the recommendation on the bottle, I take 3 twice a day.

Hi, Freiamaya – the quote above was for Therese2010, about hands slipping.

I hear ya on the feet slipping. I cannot understand why your recent-grad teachers would be getting you to straddle your mat in the old way. It doesn’t make any sense. It was for this very reason that it was changed.

I am going to tell you a secret … ssssh …

The way to stop your hands from slipping is by … practicing yoga – without wiping. Over time you will develop sufficient finger and hand strength so that no matter how wet your hands are they will still grip. Really!!!

We used to practice with little cloths. Then one day we stopped and that is the day our yoga changed. If you can, avoid the washcloths and just put up with the slippage for a while.

    Hi, Freiamaya!

    2. Just blink the sweat away, don’t wipe it with anything. No part of the Bikram series involves wiping sweat.

Sweaty feet making you slip – aren’t you standing on your yoga mat at all times? I would think it’s unsafe to be on the bare floor, I agree with you! Back a year or two ago the Bikram series used to involve straddling your mat, but that’s been changed to everyone coming to the top of their mat and then turning right so they are now lengthwise to their mat for Triangle and Standing Separate Leg Stretching poses.

Springtime: Yogabody Naturals can help with that, not radically, just quietly and almost sneakily you’ll realize you’re more “bendy” than you were a week ago…

Welcome to this site and the Bikram yoga, Pip!

Sounds like you’re doing everything right, lots of yoga and Weight Watchers. It’s all good.

The Standing Series – yeah, I hear ya – they can be really hard, but keep at it, you’ll get it! And remember in both Standing Head to Knee and sitting Head to Knee to keep your core strong and your butt tucked under and have patience! You made me laugh out loud when you said you’ve been at it three weeks and you *still* can’t straighten your damn legs! ha ha ha… oops, sorry …. probably took me a couple of years to get my leg straight out, much more than three weeks!

I am still taking the Yogabody supplements, yes, in fact, just ordered more. Why? Because I feel fabulous and I have an inkling they have reduced my appetite as well, as I’ve kept off the pounds I lost last February, so that’s almost a year, without really trying, but just haven’t had much appetite and the only thing that’s been added/different was the Yogabody pills, in July.

Hi, Torqued. Yes, I missed four days around the holidays and started to notice my knuckles getting creaky. I need it every day too for arthritis. I’d much rather do yoga than take pills! I WISH I was the last person down in Awkward, I still can’t get down as low and I’d like to be, or as other people are.

There’s just nothing bad about this yoga, is there? It’s all good.

I thank *god* it’s hardwood floor! It’s totally mopped and dried between every class, so there’s no moisture left over and no smell. 🙂

In my studio they have *buckets* for people to wring out their towels into and to clean up their spot.
    Yikes!

Just make sure you keep lots of liquid going in!

Mute: You’re staying in the hot room for 90 minutes? You’re getting tons of benefits! Be calm, be still, do the poses the best you can gracefully, and remember to breathe! Give yourself a smile and know you are doing your body so much good just by being there.

And add to it the ramblings of a non-neophyte – this December I will be starting my 10th year doing Bikram yoga, having a solid, 6-day per week practice. I never find it boring and have never had a yoga injury, I go into and out of each pose slowly and carefully and have done nothing but improve over the ten years.

Now, as for my golf game, even though I practice and practice, I maintain only a mediocre game, no matter how hard I try. 🙁

And why do you think that is, Robert? Is your sweat more acidic the less your practice perhaps?

I know! No more pile of smelly towels on my basement floor! And I’ve just heard that for monthly unlimited the monthly fee is going down the more classes you do. Ahhhh, what could be better?!

Oh, it’s in Richmond, BC. 🙂

Jeez – I hate to hear that studios are still smelly. My new studio is so fabulous, I can’t help rave about it:

•Spacious practice room that accommodates 90 students.
•State of the art heating system with ultra-violet filters to ensure the cleanest air possible.
•Antimicrobial flooring that is hygienic and very comfortable to practice on.
    •Retail corner.
•A lounge area to mingle and connect with your fellow yogis.
    •Free internet access is provided.
•Complimentary mat and towel rentals (1 practice towel and 1 shower towel).
•Shower facilities with organic body wash, shampoo/conditioner and hair dryers.
    •Filtered water for your convenience.
    •Complimentary lockers.
    •Unlimited free parking.

The flooring is fabulous, not slippery, not smelly. I wonder when all the studios are going to switch to this flooring?

Amy – speaking of watching the baby – a girl in class the other night had her baby monitor hooked up on her Blackberry, she saw the baby start to stir/wake up and got up and left class. (Now, we’re all assuming of course that the hubby or someone else was in the house with said baby)

That’s what the instructor told me after class, anyway. That’s new technology, hey? I remember the old plastic ones that you could just hear noises through, and I thought that was pretty cool!
