For me it’s bread or crackers with honey about 1-2 hours before hand.

Greed got the better of me once and I gobbled a Tiramisu before class. Needless to say, it’s a no no I’ve learnt the hard way.

    Thanks all!

I am rather diligent into getting my stuff in the wash ASAP, unless it’s really crap weather [which is what I think made my favourite top reek].

Hmmm I’ve been practicing for a year [around 3-5 times a week, doubles on weekends *IF* I can] and I can say lower body fat, especially the lower abdomen, is tough to lose. But I’ve noticed once I’ve started sucking my stomach in for Pranayama, awkward and eagle, it’s worked wonders to help … lessen the appearance of Lil Miss Jell-o 😀

Also, I’ve cut down on my alcohol intake, so that could also be a reason why Lil Miss Jell-o seems to be going the way of the dodo.

Try not to feel pressured about how your body looks like, but instead focus on how GREAT you feel after class! The flab will melt off eventually, but remember, you’re working your body from inside out, bones to skin, fingertips to toes. 🙂

    Hi there 🙂

The weight gain is very likely from the muscle you’ve gained, as muscle weighs more than fat. I’ve been practicing for a year, have shrunk 2 dress sizes but gained about 1kg in weight. Perfectly normal, as my mum [who’s 54 this year] has also reported about ‘the damn scale being whacked’

And don’t restrict your calorific intake! Eat what your body feels like, as what you crave is more often what your body needs nutritionally [mmm peanut butter cravings for me 🙂 ]

I reckon I sweat like a pig for such a tiny girl. There’ll be puddles of sweat on the carpet where my feet were during the separate leg series. *blush

I’ve also noticed that if I don’t keep regular practice [eg a 1-week / few day hiatus], I won’t sweat as much during my first class back. Hmmm…

I’m looking to go for TT myself too [if not Fall 09 then spring/summer ’10]

I’ve been advised to practice 6times a week, with added 2x doubles on the weekend [if you’re up for it though]. I’ve done doubles on weekends for a few weekends, and I feel pretty good! Although the first weekend I felt like molten tau foo 😛 You might need to stock up on the electrolytes while doing so, though.

DO start a blog if you go for Fall 09 TT, I’d love to read up about it 🙂

I say take it easy! I was out with the sniffles + cough + cold + the works for about a week, so I took about 3-4 days off practice.

I suppose being sick is your body’s way of telling you to take it slow and steady 🙂

Hmm I generally skip the first day [or 2] as I have the same ‘special needs’ as you 🙂

However, I find that generally during practice there’s little if not practically no flow …

I can’t seem to work my upper back in the first [or second] part of this posture 🙁

The only part where I feel a stretch is in my lower back, so even though I lift my legs up high[er] I feel pressure in that area and not in the upper back.

Or am I just being overly paranoid about not feeling anything in my upperback? 😆

    Any help?

Wow you! Way to go! 🙂

I suppose gaining that much amount of muscle *is* possible, especially since you’ve done a good portion of Bikram Yoga AND cardio in 1 month. After all, muscle does weigh more than fat.

Ahh was about to ask something about the advanced Camel but Martina beat me to it 🙂

Hmm, I’ve tried the advanced Camel with the help of my instructor a coupla times, but it is only in this posture that I get a sense of tremendous contentment and emotional relief , something which I couldn’t find even in the half camel or rabbit.

I can already do the backward bend, so is my next goal to touch my heels with my hands [if so, what’s the grip like?] or is it to touch my head to my toes?

    Hi Cassie!

Just saw your Q while surfing the thread.

    1. Falling out of a standing posture is pretty common! It’s all part of the learning process 🙂 I’ve been practicing Bikram’s for about 8 months now – and I still fall out of Standing Bow :red:
Which postures of the standing series in particular are you referring to? If it’s the Standing Bow pose, falling to the side has to do with your balance, while falling to the front during the posture means you’re not kicking hard / high enough

    2. Hmm I used to have this problem in the beginning eg “It’s so hot I am going to melt in here … I wonder what’s for lunch? … Hmm I wonder if I can leave work early today… etc etc”.

Concentrate hard on the dialogue. Quieten your mind. Give yourself in to the dialogue. Tune yourself to what the instructor is saying.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Namaste,

Ahh this just brings back memories! I remember …

    – Turning up in EXACTLY what Rebecca said she was wearing!
    – Grunting like Chewbacca and squeaking like a mouse
    – Falling on my bum. Alot. :red:
