Hi Liatmiriam – I have been doing Bikram yoga for over 3 years and have Gabrielle’s book – I would certainly recommend it – its been a very helpful reference regarding the postures and a lot of other aspects of Bikram Yoga ( you still can’t beat good advice from a good teacher though ) . I’m sure it would answer your questions – Rob

Hi everyone -Camel pose must affect each person differently at different times.Towards the end of 2009 I was confident that I was making real progress with my camel with a good backward bend even though I still can’t quite get to the stage of hands to feet yet . Last week I had to go to a funeral which was both very sad but also with some quite humorous parts.Later that same day by the time yoga started , I had really forgotten most of the days events. However during my practice I was flat out even getting past the ” kneeling upright introductory part ” of camel let alone doing any backward bending – I just felt so sick and dizzy.Since then I’ve been to two more classes and am nearly back to my previous level. It is funny though that I am reasonably good at Fixed Firm pose yet still find Camel a real challenge. I’m fortunate enough to be able to complement Bikram yoga 3 times per week with hatha yoga once per week – being in my mid 50’s this is ideal for me – As Bonmar said , make sure you are well hydrated and have plenty of electrolytes .Robf

On the subject of holidays just wondering whether anyone can recommend good Bikram studios in Japan and Korea as my family is possibly holidaying there over the Christmas/New Year period (still a fair way off yet ]. The studios in Japan all seem to have their websites in Japanese . Thanks – Robf

Hi Gabrielle – I agree that it would be the humidity factor rather than the temperature – it is amazing though because I am sure that it takes up to 30 minutes after the end of the last posture before I feel that I am back to a normal body temperature once our class has finished .

I’ve been going regularly for 2-3 times a week for about 3 months now and I find that the hotter classes may be more difficult but they do seem to give noticably better results – I do make sure that I am well hydrated before and after though .

Hi Robert – Have been away this last week but thanks for that advice also – will have to try small amounts of water early on and then after camel ( where I always feel sick anyway ) – Rob

Thanks Gabrielle and Frasesam – my teacher (who is actually a really nice person and also quite caring ) was strongly against me having water during class – she said it would only make me feel sick – so I’ve persisted with no water till the end . However I might try Fraseram’s suggestion and try a little bit of replenishment immediately before class and see how I go , Rob

Thanks Gabrielle – I do have Endura after class and I’ll be drinking water during the class this afternoon so I’ll see how I go .The reason why I am a bit concerned about dehydration was that I took our bathroom scales with me last time and I was 4 Kilos lighter at the end of the class . Rob
