Hi! What is a “hovering knee”?

I wash my outfit (no cotton it takes too long to dry) in the shower with me or in the sink after shower right away. Towels I hang up outside for a few days until I have a load’s worth. I live in a cool humid climate so the towels don’t dry but they don’t mildew either. They always go into the machine damp-soaking.

Hi! I wonder, what do you mean by difficult? Does it hurt? Is it hard to keep your grip on your knee?
My first intuition was that if all the postures are easy, it makes sense that this one is hard. It’s the last posture in the series and it hinges on you having gotten loosened up in the all of the other postures. The previous 25 postures are opening up your body so that in the final spinal twist you have access to the most open spine possible for you on that day.
I don’t know anyone who has ever started Hot Yoga class and found the first 25 postures easy. Is it possible that you are hanging out in the other postures and not putting in all of your effort?
When I started, this posture was VERY uncomfortable for me as I had a lot of back pain and stiffness I was working through. I couldn’t hold my knee at all. I had to hold the towel. 18 months later my shoulders and ribs are almost fully turned to square the mirror and I can look straight back! If that’s the case it should get easier and more comfortable as your body opens through regular practice. As long as you’re putting effort into your postures with good technique.
Now it’s one of my favorites!
    Enjoy the journey!

    Hi Feenix,
It’s funny that your classmate burst out like that! I was having a similar experience a few weeks ago. I switched my regular class time and wound up in a class where a gentleman grunts and snorts very loudly throughout the entire class! I’ve heard people yelp out in pain, breathe kinda loud, and fart over and over again. None of this compared to the distraction of this mans grunting. It almost felt like he should be in private with those sounds in the bathroom or the bedroom. I didn’t say anything during class because we have a no talking during class rule. Im pretty sure all Bikram schools have the same rule. I spoke to the instructor after class instead of to the student. The reason I did this was because I feel it is the instructors job to take care of these things. I shouldn’t have to ask a student to keep it down. The teacher told me that some people have a hard time not making noise in the class and to try and disregard the noise. I told the teacher to try breathing calmly and deeply while grunting loudly and I bet her five bucks she couldn’t do it! I suggested that her student might not be breathing properly and that couldn’t possibly be good for his practice. The next few classes we’ve been in together he has been much quieter and I noticed and smiled BIG when another instructor complimented the improvement of his breath! She must have said something to him and I feel good about it because I know he’s been practicing regularly for three years and no one has told him to close his mouth yet! I don’t think that woman should have yelled in the middle of class but most likely her own practice was disrupted more by her outburst than yours was. Let’s hope she’s feeling better today 😉

    Hi Everybody,
I sweat soooo much. By the end of first set Pranayama I am dripping. There are rivers running down my arms and POURING off my fingertips. My eyes are red and burning from so much liquid dripping in them by the end of class. It is really remarkable how much I sweat. My towel is soaked and there is a puddle on my yoga mat that will spill off if I don’t roll up my towel with my mat. Any upside down involves sweat POURING into my nostrils. No one else in any class I’ve been to sweats like me. I’m not embarrassed by it but it does concern me. I’m thinking about going to teacher training and I’m worried that my body can’t possibly tolerate that much sweating for so many days in a row. I take electrolytes before and after class. Im five feet ten inches tall and weigh about 130 pounds, I can’t really “afford” to lose all this moisture.
My teachers say that it’s because Im effectively heating and cooling my body and that I shouldn’t worry about it. They say I am lucky to be able to sweat like that. But besides the prospect of teacher training there are two other reasons why this is a concern for me. One is that since starting Bikram about two months ago I now sweat like crazy EVERYWHERE! At the beach, whenever I’m in the sun at all, out dancing. It’s like my spiggot was turned on or something. The other reason I am concerned is that my digestion has been a little ummmm…….how to broach this taboo subject….ummmm…it’s been a little scant. It’s been a lot scant actually and you’d think what with all the twisting and wind removing postures that this wouldn’t be a problem but it is and I think it’s because Im sweating everything out that should be staying in my colon. Anyone have any thoughts on this….
