    Hi Freia

Whichever way you look at it, it is a supplement. So, it’s a neat way to take some vital ingredients into your diet. How’s your diet? Do you take superfoods? Do you think you’re lacking? These are questions to ask yourself (you don’t have to answer them here, but go ahead if you want to of course 😛 ). I guess I am going to have to do a home-controlled study (no such thing 😉 ) but work out if I don’t take them, if there’s a difference to when I do!

    Hi Marian

If that’s the only pose you’re having difficulty then that’s great. Here are 2 things you could do.

One is to simply place your arms one the floor palms down alongside the body and then lift up from there!

The other is to fold the ones in front of you, forearms parallel to the mirror relaxing them and again, lift from there.

You should be able to exert almost no pressure of your arms against the floor.

    Hi Grace

It’s probably a matter of using Google to locate it, or visiting your local sports shop and checking out their stock of mini basketballs.

Here’s what I responded at the Free Techniques Video Section a while back:

I have the ball I normally use right here. I am copying the text on it for you. It is a Nike brand BALLER with Utra-Durable Cover for Outdoor Competition. It is mini-basketball.

I hope you can locate something suitable.

Here’s something important: you need a little give in the ball so it may be too inflated for the exercise when you buy it. So deflate it a little. On the video I show you how ‘soft’ it should be by pressing down on a selection of balls.

    Hi Flora

My apologies for leaving you to your own devices. I have an excuse! 😛 Anyway I will stay away from the drama of my own story!

Can you give me an update please? Have you managed to get back into the room? Have you managed to leave that episode behind you?

I don’t really want to psychoanalyze anyone because that’s really not my place so I am not going to come up with why that happened after class.

Sometimes stuff happens and it doesn’t need a reason for happening. Sometimes the acknowledgment that it was a one off event is all that is needed.

[As an aside: I am not sure if I have ever had a panic attack but one time for sure DURING class within the first year of practice I had an episode of such great effect, that I had to leave the room (for the only time EVER) and it took at least 20 minutes for my heart to stop palpitating. I can no longer remember how long I felt differently after the fact but it was definitely scary at the time. It never happened again.]

Of course the irony of the situation is that the meditative aspects of the yoga, of being in the now, are exactly what’s required to get over that kind of problem, because by definition to be anxious about something, you are worrying about something that has happened or that might happen (whether or not it’s a conscious issue).

I have a lovely quote that comes to mind: “Worry is praying for what you don’t want to happen.”

    Hi Todd

That’s great news. If you need more help go to the Standing Head to Knee threads on this forum. There’s the Hot Yoga MasterClass manual too plus a whole 71 minute pose tutorial on it as well. As you have discovered the grip is essential to finesse. In effect you are NOT holding your foot up you are supporting your foot. It’s one of THE classic errors that Bikram yoga students make… It’s wonderful you have tangible improvements in your pose in one single class. Keep us posted!

Ah that’s funny! It’s one of those friend of a friend of a friend things. Or rather a student of a teacher of a teacher … whatever!!! 😉

We can’t assume it’s an abdominal hernia because the most common hernia for men is an inguinal hernia. For women it’s the abdominal one.

It may be worth asking this man to come onto the forum.

Anyway, I still can’t answer the question without knowing what we’re dealing with. But, as usual, happy to help.

    ‘See’ you soon

    Hi Laura

Just to be sure can you please tell me what kind of hernia you had operated on. When we talk about hernias it can apply to herniated discs or abdominal hernias etc. So please clarify. If it was an abdo hernia, then I am interested to know if it was one of those 2 hour outpatient jobbies or whether you stayed overnight.

    Hi Charm

Thanks so much! The first thing to do would be to find out what you can tell me about the pain.

When does it happen? What are you doing for it to happen? What activities? What do you do to stop the pain? If you do yoga to bring on the pain what poses are you doing? What about your posture? Can you tell me whether you are flat footed or if you pronate or supinate? Where in the knee do you feel it? Is it all over? Just on one side?

Anyway… you get the picture. Take as much space as you like to try and explain it all. Break it up in paragraphs for each mini subject and we can get started…

I hope I can shed some light and help you find a way to make it easy for you again

Hopefully they’ll get around to you soon! No other brands suit you? Lorna Jane? Soul Song? It’s such a personal thing!

Good luck on your search 😉

Just wondering… haven’t you tried Google? It’s what others would do to help you!

For best results for your tummy go and look at my free videos. There’s one called Flatten Your Tummy and Strengthen Your Back. It works a treat (I have testimonials from other mothers of 5 children – really!)

    Hi Lisa

I agree. Insulation is key. And it really does depend on room size, drafts, window area (and the glazing), the power of the heater – a combination of many things, not just the heater.

I also find that heating at a higher level for a shorter burst is great and then dropping back to maintain the heat is very effective.

    Hi Lynda

Here are 2 things to try:

    >> Try placing a hand towel under your feet or maybe a strip of yoga mat. See if that little bit of padding makes the difference for you.

    >> If that doesn’t work then it may take a little time for you to work your way backwards to the floor. Don’t go back as far, just to that edge of discomfort.

    Hi Todd

Check with your beloved. What you have in your head could be just your ‘story’ about what could happen if… It’s probable that she’d be more concerned if you didn’t wear it OUTSIDE of class! 😆 Anyway that is all conjecture.

I actually LOVE taking my jewelery off before class. I wear the same necklace, ring and earrings all the time and taking them off somehow makes me feel more physically and mentally liberated to reconnect with me with no distractions at all. I don’t feel more or less married with it off in class. What I do enjoy though is practising with my hubby.

And then I enjoy putting my ring back on again! When I do it’s a kind of love renewal… awwww it’s even a little romantic.

    Hi Michelle

If you’re concerned here are 2 ideas for you:

    >> Refresh with a new tampon sometime before class.

    >> Or wear a pad until class and then for class wear a tampon.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Lynda

Is your foot aggravated on the inside of your foot at the bunion site or is it on the top part of the foot?

Just wondering where you’re feeling it exactly…

In the meantime try getting on the floor now and point your knees out at an angle so your legs are in a V shape (your ankles should not bend and the tops of your feet should be on the floor). Try that and let me know.

    Hi Romy

I don’t mind the miscommunication. If your body says it would work for you then I am happy with that! 😉

Cobras are great for your issue. I would avoid sit-ups for the moment. My manual gives you in depth instructions how to transform sit-ups from risky to helpful and strengthening. You will find some details on the forum if you don’t have my book.

I would be working on core activation. I would, while walking be working on best posture and technique too. Did you look at my free videos? There’s one on each of those subjects! Go here for Free Yoga Videos!

It’s up to you if you need to avoid the deep spinal twist. You could do a mild one instead. If you think that would work for you then let me know and I can give you some instructions.

    Hi Mark

Interesting! OK, you mention the salt deficiency and this could be an issue. Have you yet had your blood checked? I think getting a baseline reading would be well worthwhile.

When you do, remember to also ask for a 25 Hydroxy test for your Vitamin D levels too.

If you’ve been around the forum for a while you’ll see I recommend using the good salts (totally unprocessed sea salt with all its nutrients). As for your eating: We have been having a ton of success eating a greater proportion of raw food (and organic) so I am wondering what your dietary habits are like.

A couple of other things that would be useful:

Please let me know if there are any particular poses that could be an issue (it’s possible!).

And make sure after class you stay in Savasana for sufficient time. I know that people who leave too quickly tend to sweat for longer. Although I do have to say that if you’re having challenges DURING class then this may not actually be your issue, but it would help your recovery.

We will get to the bottom of this… let’s just explore some possibilities!

    Hi Romy

It’s been a week. What have you got to report? I know you’re finding Paschimottanasana pose better and probably Hands to Feet because of the techniques I offered you.

What about Half Moon and Backbend and Standing Bow? Rather than launch into any different techniques an update would be better to make sure we’re moving in the right direction!

    Hi Shikhee

If your problem is linked to the heel pulling poses like this one and Hands to Feet, then perhaps we can examine those poses. Have you checked out the other threads to to with these poses. Start with Intense Stretching pose and the often recommended free video: Opening Up Your Hamstrings With Hot Yoga.

Come back and tell me if that seems to make sense and what if anything happens when you change your approach.

We can take it from there

    Hi Briar

It … Could be a one-off. Could be your body needs rest. Could be your body needs something else. When I was at my teacher training years ago, one of my friends there had Magnesium sachets which she took around the time of her period and she gave me some too. I never had a problem while I was the benefactor of her generosity. I can’t say that your issue is one of Mg, and one could not reliably predict that it would happen again, but just thought I would share that one with you!

These days I supplement my organic wholefood mostly raw diet with a top quality wholefood multivitamin (that I get sent from the US) and since that time I don’t get period pain at all. Worth questioning what your circumstances are perhaps?

    Hi Kel

Do you think that it might be a good idea to get a baseline analysis of your health? It could be some vital nutritional element that you need to address.

I know shampoo is important and quality could make a real difference. But it could be worth making sure that you can either count or exclude what you put into your body rather than only considering what you put on your hair!

    Hi Alyssa

Help is on its way!!! Thanks for your order and I am positive you will find the right info within the covers of the manual.

For the moment keep that leg bent in all those poses you talked about. Of course that also mostly means both sides of the poses.

There are some interesting threads about hamstrings (you can search for them in the injuries section). Damage like that can be insidious. If you keep aggravating it while it’s healing you could form scar tissue against which the muscle will tug and cause pain and exacerbate the problem.

So here are 2 things to do besides taking a look around the forum at specific poses:

    >> 1 Take a look at Opening Up Your Hamstrings With Hot Yoga, and

    >> 2 Wait for your package! 😆 It should take 2-3 days max.

    Gabrielle 🙂
