Well I went 3 times last week so I am already at a much better place than last month. I think I need to stick to 2-3 classes a week as being a realistic goal for me with my busy life.

Bleh, I’ve fallen back into another rut.

I had a good March, but this past April I only went to 3 classes. 3! And I didn’t not go for any really good reason.

I went back this morning first thing, so I’d have my whole day ahead of me. It was a really rough class.

I had to stop in the 2nd posture and that is so not like me. Even my toes hurt today!

I have been practicing for several years and have the same kind of issue. I just do not force myself in these postures. They can take years to master.

I find myself in fact just standing still a lot of the time and just focusing on my breath.

Standing head to knee in particular is one of the toughest postures for me.

It can be intimidating,(especially if you don’t want to get someone “in trouble”) but I think approaching the studio owner about these kinds of concerns is important.

I had different concerns about a new teacher once and actually didn’t approach the owner because I didn’t want her to get in trouble.

I think other regulars said something though and things have improved greatly.

And she still teaches at the studio, and remains one of my faves ;).

Honestly, when I first started I noticed the skinny people you referred to.

However, as I continue to practice (and I am far from a yoga rockstar by any means), I notice them less and less.

It’s interesting, because a lot of the hot yoga regulars at my studio are the complete opposite of super skinny types.

In fact, this is one of the things I love the most about hot yoga.

    Honest!

This is a major reason why I prefer going to class late in the afternoon or in the evening.

Often when I go early on a day off, it will knock everything out of me for the rest of the day.

Definitely agree they are not necessary. I’ve even had teachers ask people to remove their socks if they wore them inside to class. Can’t say I’ve noticed anyone wearing gloves.

Also could it be your diet?

In the past, I craved salty snacks after class.

I no longer really buy that stuff (once I start, I could eat the whole bag).

I have noticed a significant difference.

I also recently cut out a lot of my carb intake, as well, and it’s helped tremendously with stomach bloat.

    Thanks ladies.

    This is helpful.

I am going to try to plan more for the days I will attend/target the amount of classes I want to make in one month.

I also have the mindset when I go to a class, if I haven’t been there in several days that I won’t push myself.

I end up having a good class that way.

I think once fall/winter sets in I will get back into it more.

I had a similar question because I just completed a 20-day challenge and felt similar.

I think a big thing was I was not getting “good salt” and other minerals back into my body.

I am sure Gabrielle will respond as well ;).

I find that taking breaks from time to time are very much needed.

Especially if you haven’t been hydrating well, sleeping good at night, working a ton of hours during the day, etc.

The thing about this yoga is you can ALWAYS go back to it. It is a life-long practice.

I did 20 days last month, and this month I’ve only been to 3 classes so far.

The “guilt” is the hardest thing to get out of your head ;).

I don’t take a supplement per se, however, I do tend to eat a lot of salty foods in general. Even things that I know are not great for me (chips, crackers, salty peanuts).

I also am wondering if I am not well hydrated either.

I try to go at least 3x a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

I always feel like I get a benefit out of it, even if I only make it once in a particular week.

I often find myself yawning during the floor series. I think it’s probably a normal body reaction.

Are you hydrating well? That may be it. Especially in the summertime.

Hope things look up with your practice soon!

I still have days like this and I’ve been going to hot yoga now for close to 2 years. I really think a lot of this feeling can be linked back to our hydration.

I also have heard tell that if you try to guzzle down water right before class, and haven’t been hydrating well for the past day or two, you can feel really sick.

Great points!! I had a tough class yesterday (it was my 4th for the week) and I really think it had to do with the fact that I just couldn’t focus well for whatever reason.

I took today off, but I am absolutely going back in the AM!

I have 2 and they are both from Gaiam. Just the ones you can pick up at Target for $20.00 or less. I am thinking of investing in a more expensive one though.

I also just throw them in the washing machine every couple of weeks, and then let them air dry. A yoga teacher gave me that tip!

    I go through this too.

My teachers have said it depends on lots of things……how we ate that day, how we slept the night before, are we hydrated enough…….

I saw this posted on a hot yoga blog the other day, and I could only get through half of the article before I lost interest.

Yup. Just getting there and staying in the hot room is half the battle.

I agree if you start looking at everyone else………..there goes your focus and you are not going to have a good class. I have been doing hot yoga for almost a year, and still struggle with MANY of the postures.

I used to always wear my rings as well, but have gotten so used to taking them off now for class, it is just routine. I leave them home as well!

I have been craving stuffed green olives after class lately. I think it’s the salt! LOL.

I went back last night after a week and a half of not going due to being sick, and I ended up having to sit out most of the floor series. I just felt nauseated the whole time and can’t remember the last time I had such a difficult class. I guess I need to listen to my body and just get well before I push myself.
